TET agitation: Teachers to seek support from MPs
Teachers’ union aims to gather written letters of support from MPs and urge them to raise the matter with the central govt

Ahmedabad: The Akhil Bharatiya Rashtriya Shaikshik Mahasangh (ABRSM) has announced an escalation of its nationwide agitation concerning teacher welfare and the mandatory Teacher Eligibility Test (TET). As part of the second phase of its movement, the organisation will conduct an ‘MP Contact and Support Campaign’ across the country, including Gujarat, from June 23 to July 5.According to ABRSM Gujarat president Mitesh Bhatt, the first phase saw large-scale protests held at district headquarters nationwide on June 18. During these demonstrations, memorandums were submitted to the Prime Minister and the Union education minister through district collectors, highlighting concerns regarding TET requirements and teacher rights.Following the response to the initial phase, the organisation has now moved to directly engage members of Parliament (MPs) from both the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha. In the second phase, ABRSM delegations will meet MPs in person to explain the seriousness of the issue and submit formal representations. The union aims to gather written letters of support from MPs and urge them to raise the matter with the central govt.Additionally, ABRSM has requested that MPs raise the issue during parliamentary proceedings, including Question Hour, Zero Hour, or through special mentions, to push for a permanent resolution. The organisation believes that broader political support will strengthen its demand for justice and for reconsideration of TET implementation policy.
