Gorakhpur: A 26-year-old watchman working at a blanket factory was injured critically after being shot in the chest by unidentified motorcycle-borne assailants in Gorakhpur’s Khajni area late Tuesday night. Police suspect the attack was linked to an attempted robbery.Resident of Manas Vihar Colony in Padri Bazar under Shahpur police station limits, Rohan Singh was returning home after completing his duty as watchman at a blanket factory in Khajni. According to the FIR lodged by his father, Buddh Bhagwan Singh, Rohan left the factory around 9.30 pm on his motorcycle.Police said that after crossing Chhatai Bridge, about 5 km from the factory, two youths riding a motorcycle followed him and shot him. The bullet struck Rohan in the chest and he collapsed on the roadside.Passersby alerted the police and rushed him to the district hospital. Looking at his severe injuries, doctors referred him to BRD Medical College, where he remains in critical condition.FIR against unidentified persons was registered at Khajni police station. Investigators began questioning factory employees and residents while examining CCTV footage from the area.SP South Dinesh Puri said police are collecting evidence and probing all possible motives behind the attack. The exact motive for the crime will be clearer after further investigation and the victim’s statement, he added.
