Mumbai: A 29-year-old man suffered burn injuries after coming into contact with an overhead electrical wire while travelling on the roof of a local train at Ghatkopar station on Tuesday evening. The Railway Protection Force (RPF) has registered a case against him under the Railways Act.The incident occurred around 6.30pm when a local train arrived at platform 3 of Ghatkopar station.The man, identified as Akash Eknath Kharat, a resident of Diva East, was travelling on the roof of the second coach when he came into contact with the overhead equipment (OHE), suffering burn injuries to the left side of his back.RPF and Government Railway Police personnel immediately arranged for the OHE power supply to be switched off and brought the injured man down from the train.He was taken to Rajawadi Hospital in Ghatkopar, where he is undergoing treatment.According to the RPF, Kharat told investigators that he had climbed onto the train roof at Kurla station. CCTV footage from Ghatkopar also showed that he was already on the roof when the train arrived at the station.The incident detained the local train for about 20 minutes, from 6.31pm to 6.51pm, and also required the OHE supply to be switched off between Vikhroli and Kanjurmarg on the Down Through Line from 6.38pm to 6.47pm.The RPF registered case No. 528/2026 under Sections 156 and 154 of the Railways Act, alleging that Kharat had entered a prohibited area and endangered passenger safety by travelling on the train roof.The case is being investigated by sub-inspector H K Gautam. Further action will be taken after Kharat is discharged from hospital, the RPF said.
