Gurgaon: A man engaged in water-billing work under an MCG tender was allegedly assaulted with an iron pipe by a tenant in Sector 7 on Sunday after the tenant objected to him ringing the doorbell twice.The man, Ashish Kumar, is engaged by Vee Technologies, a private company executing the MCG tender. According to his complaint, he reached a house in Sector 7 around 3.30pm on Sept 6 to take a water meter reading and complete billing formalities.Kumar told police that he rang the doorbell twice after the occupant did not respond. “The man then came outside, abused him and picked an argument over why he had rung the bell twice. The argument escalated when he allegedly picked up an iron pipe or wiper handle and attacked Kumar,” a police officer said, citing the complaint submitted at New Colony police station.Kumar suffered an injury to his elbow and started bleeding. He alleged that the man also damaged the printer he was carrying for his official work and his mobile phone during the assault.His medical examination recorded two blunt-force injuries, with doctors advising an X-ray and orthopaedic opinion for one and a surgeon’s opinion for the other, the officer said.While speaking to TOI, Kumar said, “The man was completely drunk and became angry because I had rung the bell. Even after I apologised, he beat me up. I could not complete my work for the day and have not been able to resume work since the incident.”Kumar told police that the accused allegedly threatened to assault him again if he returned to the house for work. He said he feared another attack if he had to return to the area for official work.Based on the complaint and medical report, police registered a case under sections 221 (voluntarily obstructing any public servant in the discharge of his duty), 132 (assault or criminal force to deter a public servant from discharge of his duty), 121(1) (voluntarily causing hurt to any person being a public servant in the discharge of his duty) and 324(3) (mischief and thereby causing loss or damage to any property, including the property of govt or local authority) of BNS.Police said the accused has not been arrested yet, adding that they are verifying the facts and would take further action based on the investigation. A police team also visited the spot.
