Gurgaon: A World Bank delegation visited the city on Friday to review sanitation infrastructure, construction and demolition (C&D) waste processing facilities, and pollution-control mechanisms.The team visited the city as part of the Haryana Clean Air Project for Sustainable Development (HCAPSD). In March 2026, the World Bank and Haryana govt along with the centre, signed a $300 million agreement to implement HCAPSD aimed at improving air quality across Haryana.The team—including Thierry Martin, Aniket Ghanashyam, among others—met MCG officials and inspected key locations such as the Basai C&D waste plant, sweeping operations, horticultural waste management, anti-smog gun deployments, and waste segregation in private residential areas.At the Basai plant, officials demonstrated the collection, processing and recycling of construction and demolition waste generated across the city.Officials said the visit aimed to finalise the urban work plan, select intervention sites, and assess municipal efforts for air quality and environmental management. Discussions covered priority actions under the urban work plan, site identification for air quality projects, and field reviews of solid waste management, C&D waste processing, horticultural waste, mechanised sweeping, door-to-door collection, and anti-smog guns.Commissioner Pradeep Dahiya and senior civic officials briefed the delegation on projects related to sanitation, air pollution mitigation and solid waste management. “The civic body has been attempting to integrate modern technology into waste collection, road cleaning and environmental monitoring systems,” said Dahiya in the meeting held at MCG office.The delegation reviewed the operation of mechanised road-sweeping machines and anti-smog guns deployed across Gurgaon for dust control. Officials said these machine-based cleaning and water-spraying systems are reducing dust pollution and improving sanitation.As part of the visit, the team also inspected Sanath Road, which has been developed as a “model road,” to assess sanitation, landscaping and urban management measures implemented there.They also visited Suncity Township in Sector 54 to examine systems for segregation and disposal of horticultural and household waste. Officials informed the team that separate collection and scientific disposal mechanisms were put in place for different waste streams within the township.According to officials, the World Bank team studied Gurgaon’s sanitation and pollution-control systems as part of a broader assessment of urban environmental management practices being adopted under the HCAPSD.
