Varanasi: The Varanasi Municipal Corporation has intensified preparations to ensure a clean and well-organised Kashi ahead of the auspicious festival of Shri Krishna Janmashtami.With a heavy rush of devotees and several religious events expected across the city, the civic body is focusing on sanitation, lighting and road maintenance to ensure devotees do not face inconvenience during the celebrations.Municipal Commissioner Himanshu Nagpal reviewed the preparations with concerned officials and directed them to complete cleanliness drives, streetlight repairs and road patchwork on priority in their respective areas. He warned that negligence in sanitation work during Janmashtami would not be tolerated and strict action would be taken against officials found negligent.Additional sanitation workers will be deployed at major temples, religious places, procession routes and other crowded areas. The corporation has also ordered regular garbage collection, thorough cleaning of drains and close monitoring of sensitive locations during the festival.Officials have been directed to carry out quick patchwork on major roads used by devotees and ensure immediate repair of non-functional streetlights. Areas that have previously reported waterlogging or garbage accumulation will remain under special watch to prevent problems during the festival.The Municipal Commissioner also instructed officials to conduct ground inspections in their respective zones and ensure that all arrangements are completed before Janmashtami. He stressed the need for coordinated efforts to maintain cleanliness and civic facilities and prevent any inconvenience or disorder during the celebrations.
