Bengaluru: Visvesvaraya Technological University (VTU) students will get content and training on artificial intelligence from Google starting this year.The varsity signed an MoU with the global tech giant, which will provide the modules. “As per the agreement, Google will charge Rs 350 per student. However, it is already part of the consortium of library fees that students have paid, and they need not pay anything extra this year,” said VTU vice-chancellor S Vidyashankar.The purpose is to provide training in AI skills, faculty skill development, cloud computing, data science, cybersecurity, and to prepare students for industry requirements and employment opportunities. “VTU has 220 engineering colleges with 3 lakh students. After completing engineering, students must be ready for immediate employment, aligned with industry needs. This requires multiple training programmes. Hence, we have partnered with Google and other companies to emphasise on skill education,” he said.Sanjay Jain, head of Google for Education, India, said: “Faculty members will also receive training. Today, even small children use AI, but very few use it effectively. Through this programme, we will train both students and faculty to prepare them as per industry requirements. Based on NEP and SEP, several learning models will be introduced.”VTU announced agreements with other companies Tuesday. Through its e-learning centre, an advanced digital learning platform — Simulation Enabled Experiential Learning — is being launched. It is a cloud-based learning ecosystem where learners can gain hands-on experience through advanced simulations.Materials for GATE exam preparation, past question papers, mock tests, industry-based courses, AI-powered mock interviews, access to over 1,900 industrial projects and internships, technical webinars, workshops and expert interactions will be provided. An incubation centre for electric vehicles is also on the cards for students in Mysuru. The land will be given by govt.Qualcomm, through its subsidiary Stem Lore Innovators LLP, has signed an agreement to provide long-term education in AI, product prototyping, embedded systems and Internet of Things. A centre of excellence in Edge AI will be established, and another in phases with Bharat Skills Foundation for skill education.
