Bengaluru: Property owners in Bengaluru have been given an additional week to clean their vacant sites, with Greater Bengaluru Authority (GBA) extending the deadline from Aug 15 to 22.The extension comes following requests from property owners for more time to remove accumulated debris, overgrown weeds and other waste from their premises. GBA has warned that if sites are not cleaned by the revised deadline, civic authorities will undertake the work and recover the cost from the property owners.In a release, GBA said the charges have been calculated based on the govt’s schedule of rates (SR), taking into account the size of the site, quantity of debris, cleaning work and transportation costs. It acknowledged that the charges could be significant and urged owners to clean their properties themselves or engage private contractors to avoid higher recovery costs.The extension comes as GBA, along with agencies including BDA, Bescom, K-Ride, BMRCL and KIADB, intensifies its Freedom from Waste campaign. Around 100 trucks and 25 excavators have been deployed across the city to clear illegally dumped debris, overgrown vegetation and other waste from public spaces. The campaign has so far resulted in the removal of more than 30,000 tonnes of debris and vegetation, GBA said.The campaign is being undertaken alongside ongoing drives to clear footpaths and remove abandoned vehicles, with the aim of restoring public spaces and improving accessibility.
