Bengaluru: Under pressure from hoteliers and consumers, chief minister D K Shivakumar on Monday said he has asked the Karnataka Milk Federation (KMF) to reconsider the hike in curd prices, even as he defended the increase in milk rates.“I have asked KMF to reconsider as it is becoming too expensive for the public. They will look into it,” he addedCurd rates rose by Rs 14 a litre, from Rs 54 to Rs 68, after the govt raised milk prices by Rs 8. A 500 ml packet now costs Rs 34, up from Rs 28.However, he ruled out a revision in milk prices. “The hike in fuel prices has had a cascading effect on dairy farmers. I admit that there is anger among people, but none complained when the price of mineral water bottles went up after the Centre’s GST decision. We discussed the issue of milk price hike in detail and arrived at it,” he said.On a hike in bus fares too looming, he said the govt was giving special grants to run state buses. “With the situation being dire, we have let the transport corporations decide on pricing,” he said.
