Lucknow: Balrampur police on Monday arrested a man accused of abetting the murder-suicide of a family of four.Bajrangi Giri had allegedly shot dead his wife and two minor children before taking his own life on July 31, after failing to recover Rs 29 lakh he had lent to a friend Chandrabhan Giri.The accused, Chandrabhan Giri alias Daddan Giri, was arrested near Kodri Ghat in connection with a case registered under Section 108 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). He was later produced before a court and remanded to judicial custody, police said.The case relates to the incident reported on July 31 under the Kotwali Dehat police station limits.In his FIR, Rajesh Giri had claimed that his brother Bajrangi had lent Rs 29 lakh to Chandrabhan Giri to help him financially. Despite repeated demands, the money was not returned, leaving Bajrangi under severe mental distress.Police said Bajrangi allegedly shot dead his 25-year-old wife Komal, three-year-old daughter and one-year-old son before turning the firearm on himself.Police had recovered an illegal 12-bore country-made firearm, two illegal .315-bore country-made firearms, live and spent cartridges of both calibres, and a pair of scissors from the crime scene.Balrampur SP Vikas Kumar said Bajrangi had recorded a video shortly before his death, in which he allegedly claimed responsibility for killing his family and ending his own life. In the video, he blamed Chandrabhan Giri for failing to repay the Rs 29 lakh loan despite repeated requests, holding him responsible for driving him to the extreme step.Following the emergence of the video and other evidence, police registered a case against Chandrabhan Giri for abetment.“During interrogation, Chandrabhan admitted that he had borrowed Rs 29 lakh from Bajrangi which he had invested in his business. He said that financial losses delayed repayment. He admitted that Bajrangi had been repeatedly demanding the money,” said SP Kumar.
