Gujarat to launch 101 new Shramik Annapurna centres

Gandhinagar: The state govt will launch 101 new centres under the Shramik Annapurna Yojana across 28 districts on Friday, increasing the total number of meal distribution centres in Gujarat to 372. The expansion is expected to add 10,000 meals a day, benefiting around 45,000 construction workers and their family members every day.According to an official statement, chief minister Bhupendra Patel will inaugurate a new centre at Chanakyapuri in Ahmedabad. Implemented by the labour, skill development and employment department, the scheme provides subsidised meals to construction workers and their families at Rs 5 per person. The meal includes rotis, vegetables, dal, rice, pickle, chillies and jaggery, while sweets such as sukhdi and sheera are served once a week.To enhance accessibility, the scheme also offers doorstep meal delivery at construction sites where more than 50 workers opt for the service. Besides the fixed centres located at labour congregation points, this facility has enabled the distribution of an estimated 27 lakh meals directly at construction sites so far.
