Udaipur/Jaipur: Two teachers were seriously injured Thursday after a portion of roof plaster collapsed on them at a govt primary school in Margiya Mahuda village of Dungarpur district, days after the state govt ordered fresh safety inspections and repairs of school buildings ahead of the monsoon.The incident took place around 10.30am when Shilpa Kumari Rot and Rajkumar Bunkar were carrying out academic and administrative work in the school office. The roof plaster suddenly gave way, trapping them under debris.Shilpa suffered serious injuries to her leg and shoulder, while Rajkumar sustained injuries to his head and neck. Other staff members pulled them out, cleared the debris and shifted them to Antari Primary Health Centre. After initial treatment, both were referred to a higher medical centre because of the severity of their injuries.The incident sparked concern among villagers and parents, who alleged that the school building was in a dilapidated condition. They demanded a technical inspection by the education department and immediate repairs to weak and damaged sections to prevent a repeat.On Tuesday, the education department directed officials to conduct a fresh inspection of all school buildings across the state to assess structural safety, including buildings declared dilapidated last year. The directions were issued by additional chief secretary for education Rajesh Kumar Yadav during a review meeting on school building safety, repair works, ongoing construction projects and student safety arrangements in govt schools.Yadav said student safety was the department’s top priority and that unsafe buildings must not be used under any circumstances.The orders came a day after schools reopened across the state.
