Gurgaon: Two men were arrested for allegedly selling a rented SUV in the city.Manoj Panwar, 34, and Sumit, 23, sold the Mahindra Thar to another person in Rajasthan for Rs 2.3 lakh instead of returning it to a vehicle rental agency.Police arrested the duo from Bahadurgarh on May 14 in connection with the case registered at Sector-5 police station. According to the complaint filed by the rental operator, who runs an office in Sector-6, the accused — Manoj, a resident of Hari Nagar Line Paar in Bahadurgarh, and Sumit, a resident of Daboda village in Jhajjar district — rented the Thar on April 22 for two days on the pretext of going on a trip.“However, after the rental period ended, the vehicle was not returned. When the complainant tried to contact the renters, they stopped responding, following which a complaint was lodged on May 3,” an officer said. Police said the accused sold the vehicle soon after taking it on rent.“We are now trying to recover the vehicle and identify the person who purchased it,” the officer added. Panwar was previously involved in a case related to assault and fighting in Bahadurgarh. Sumit has two criminal cases registered against him under the Arms Act and Excise Act in Sonipat and Bihar. Both accused were produced before a Gurgaon court on May 15, which granted two days’ police remand.
