Bengaluru: Two Karnataka Public Service Commission (KPSC) staffers were recently arrested for allegedly approaching candidates who appeared for junior engineer (civil and mechanical) posts in the water resources department earlier this year, promising them jobs in exchange for money.The accused are technical assistant in the computer wing Sharanappa M Adavalli, 55, and senior assistant P Swami Das. They were arrested based on statements by four other accused — Krishnamurthy, Lingaraju, Vijay Kumar and Sanna Timmappa — arrested earlier this year.The investigation began after a group of aggrieved candidates filed a complaint with the KPSC secretary in Jan. The candidates said they had received unsolicited calls from individuals claiming they could guarantee selection in the exam in exchange for money. Following the complaint, an assistant secretary of KPSC lodged a complaint with Vidhana Soudha police, leading to an FIR.“KPSC staffer Sharanappa provided candidates’ information regarding the JE post to Swami Das. Das, in turn, passed the information to the other accused, who tried to contact the candidates,” an investigating officer said.Police added that the probe would continue. Sharanappa and Das have been remanded in judicial custody and shifted to Bengaluru Central Prison.
