Ghaziabad: Around 20 shops were left gutted after a fire broke out at Tyagi market near the Crossings Republic roundabout. The blaze began due to a gas leak at a restaurant in the market. As firefighters worked to douse the flames, another fire broke out at a flat only 400maway, believed to have been caused by a short circuit. No casualties were reported in either incident.Chief fire officer Rahul Pal said that the Kotwali fire station received information about the fire at the market around 11.10am. The fire station initially dispatched two units to the site. However, after noting the severity of the situation, more fire tenders were dispatched from Vaishali, Kotwali, Sahibabad and GB Nagar. Firefighters formed two lines around the blaze and began extinguishing the fire. While firefighting efforts at the market were underway, another fire was reported at a flat on the 20th floor of the nearby Ajnara Gen-X society.
A second fire was reported at a flat located 400m from the market
“Two fire tenders were sent to the flat to douse the flames. I also went to the flat from the market site and within an hour we had control of the situation. The fire broke out in one room of the flat, in which three ACs, two tables and one LED TV were damaged. The walls of the room were also damaged. The cause of the fire is likely to be a short circuit but investigation is underway,” the CFO said.Once the fire at the flat was under control, Pal said he returned to the market, where firefighting efforts were still ongoing.“It took around three hours to control the situation at the market. Around 20 shops caught fire in this incident, which were temporarily constructed with tin sheds. No casualties of any kind were reported in the fire. The fire unit, acting swiftly, saved several other nearby shops, including a Model Wine Shop and an IGL CNG pump,” Pal added.
