Lucknow: Lucknow police have completed the investigation into the gang rape of a 19-year-old DU student who was travelling by the Suheldev Express from Jaunpur to Delhi and have filed a chargesheet against two accused, officials said.The girl had alighted from Charbagh railway station in Lucknow on a friend’s call and then went to a rented room in golf city area where her friend along with his aide had allegedly sexually assaulted her and threatened to kill her if she informed her family.According to the police, the incident was initially registered as Zero FIR at GRP Anand Vihar Railway Station in Delhi. The case was subsequently transferred to Sushant Golf City police station in Lucknow, under the charges of gangrape, causing hurt by poison, wrongful confinement.The accused have been identified as Shivam Yadav alias Prashant Yadav, 21, and Shani Yadav alias Ankur Yadav, 20.Police said the investigation found that Shani Yadav had already rented a room which investigators consider a significant aspect of the case. According to the police, the accused took the girl from Charbagh railway station on pretext of an outing to the rented accommodation after she was travelling from Jaunpur towards Delhi.The girl underwent internal and external medical examination and DNA sampling within 24 hours of the incident, on May 19, 2026, at Dr Hedgewar Arogya Sansthan in Shahdara, Delhi.Police subsequently obtained DNA samples of both accused, who were lodged in district jail. The samples were submitted to the Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL), Mahanagar, Lucknow, on June 18. Police said the investigation was completed within around two-and-a-half months and a chargesheet was submitted before the court along with case-diary papers.The Chief Judicial Magistrate (CJM), Lucknow, took cognisance of the chargesheet and the next hearing has been scheduled for Oct 3, 2026.Police had initially referred to an unnamed friend of Shivam Yadav in connection with the case. However, investigators said no concrete information or evidence establishing the identity or involvement of the unidentified person emerged from the victim’s statement recorded under Section 183 BNSS, the statements of the named accused or those of other witnesses.Consequently, the unidentified person was separated from the case during the course of investigation, and the chargesheet was filed against the two named accused. Both accused subsequently sought bail before the lower court, but their applications were rejected.
