Hyderabad: Alleging that the power situation in Telangana has deteriorated due to the Congress govt’s administrative failures, mismanagement of the power sector, and irregularities involving Singareni Collieries and TG Genco, BRS has formed six fact finding teams to assess the situation on the ground. The teams would visit thermal power plants and the Singareni headquarters on Thursday.“The teams will inspect coal stocks, power generation levels, plant capacities, operational issues, and financial transactions between Singareni and TG Genco. The findings will be made public and will chalk out future course of action based on the reports,’ BRS working president KT Rama Rao told media at Telangana Bhavan on Wednesday. KTR said thermal power generation is being affected by coal shortages while hydel power production has also come under pressure due to inadequate water availability.He said electricity is the lifeline of Telangana and essential for agriculture, irrigation, drinking water supply, industries, the IT sector, and households. He recalled that persistent power shortages had been one of the key issues that fuelled the Telangana statehood movement.“Telangana had an installed power generation capacity of 7,778 MW at the time of state formation in 2014 and that the BRS govt increased it to 19,472 MW during its decade-long rule. Nearly Rs 1 lakh crore was invested in strengthening power infrastructure, including expansion of substations and uninterrupted power supply to agricultural pump sets,” KTR said.The former minister alleged that farmers in several parts of the state are currently receiving only around six hours of electricity instead of the promised 24-hour supply. He claimed that protests by farmers were taking place at substations and that power shortages are affecting not only agriculture but also industries, many of which are increasingly relying on generators to meet their energy needs.Questioning the decline in electricity generation, KTR pointed to reduced output at several thermal power stations. He said that generation at the 4,000 MW Yadadri Thermal Power Station was far below capacity, while units at Bhadradri Thermal Power Station and the Singareni Thermal Power Plant in Jaipur were also underperforming.KTR further alleged large-scale mismanagement at Singareni, accusing the company of supplying lower-grade coal to power plants and causing losses to the public exchequer. He also alleged irregularities in coal production, financial management, and tendering processes, while claiming that substantial dues owed to Singareni remain unpaid.Holding the Congress government responsible for the power crisis, the BRS leader said the issue was caused not by weather conditions alone but by poor governance, administrative inefficiency, and corruption. He accused the government of failing to maintain the power infrastructure developed during the BRS regime.ends/
