JAIPUR: Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) spokesperson Ashutosh Ranka on Wednesday welcomed the Supreme Court’s decision to quash FIRs registered against Gen Z NEET-UG protesters, calling it a “historic decision”.Ranka said the court had quashed FIRs registered against protesters across states and Union Territories under Article 142.“Not only in those states, but across the country, in any state or Union Territory, FIRs that had been registered against protesters were quashed by the court yesterday under Article 142,” Ranka told news agency PTI.He added that the Supreme Court had also directed that no fresh FIRs be registered against protesters in connection with the matter.“The court has also decided that no future FIRs should be registered against any protesters in this matter. This is a very historic decision. It is called a John Doe order. I do not think this type of order has ever been used after Independence,” Ranka said.Ranka said the CJP welcomed the court’s decision and claimed that the agreement reached between the protesters and the government on July 25 had been honoured.On compensation for the families of those who lost their children during the protests, Ranka said the government had set a three-month deadline.“We welcome the Supreme Court’s decision. The agreement reached between us and the government on July 25 was honoured yesterday. As far as compensation is concerned, the government has also set a deadline of three months, within which all families who have lost their children will be provided compensation,” he added.
