Chennai: TVS Motor Company has launched a junior racing programme for aspiring motorcycle racers aged 10 to 14 years. As part of the initiative, TVS has developed an Apache RR 200 Mini and handed over 10 mini motorcycles to the Madras Motor Sports Club (MMSC) on Monday.The motorcycles will form the backbone of the grassroots talent development programme, which aims to create a structured pathway to competitive racing. Participants will be trained in the fundamentals of racing, including discipline, precision, control and safety, under the guidance of experienced instructors and TVS Racing champions.“The programme will help nurture talent at a young age and create globally competitive racers,” Vimal Sumbly, Head of Premium Business at TVS Motor Company, told TOI.“Currently, racing programmes begin only after the age of 15, but those who start at that age do not get enough time to prepare. Globally, there are several racing programmes for children between the ages of 10 and 15. We believe this will allow kids to train and experience racing at a younger age. It is similar to learning swimming early in life and will help attract more participants at the grassroots level,” he said.The programme will act as a feeder to TVS’s Rookie One Make Championship in the 15-and-above category, providing an entry point into competitive circuit racing. Aspirants will undergo a year of training at the Madras International Karting Arena (MIKA).“With competitive racing under FMSCI regulations beginning at the age of 15, the TVS Apache Junior Programme addresses the need for structured early training, making professional motorsport more accessible,” he added.
