Noida: A truck carrying empty Indane gas cylinders caught fire on the Elevated Road in Sector 24 on Tuesday afternoon, briefly affecting traffic movement on the Sectors 18 and 61 connector. No one was injured, but the incident triggered panic among commuters.Police said around 1 pm, the driver, Dilip Kumar, evacuated the truck after spotting smoke in the truck’s chassis harness. Videos, recorded and shared by passersby, show thick black smoke billowing from the vehicle.Four fire engines took nearly 30 minutes to control the fire, chief fire officer Pradeep Kumar Chaubey said. Until then, cops were pressed in to clear the crowd that had gathered in the area. A crane later towed away the damaged truck.Officials said the situation could have been considerably more serious had the cylinders been filled with gas. However, all the cylinders being transported in the truck were empty, reducing the risk of a major fire or explosion.Indane could not be reached for comment.
