Agartala: A delegation of Tripura Youth Congress (TYC) activists, led by president Neel Kamal Saha, met Tripura Human Rights Commission (THRC) on Friday to seek action against an assistant commandant of CRPF for insulting Congress protesters earlier this week during a demonstration.The activists demanded action against CRPF officer Ram Kumar allegedly responsible for beating and injuring 12 TYC members engaged in a peaceful protest against NEET question paper leak in front of the chief minister’s residence.Saha recounted that on June 15, a large group of TYC and NSUI activists participated in a rally protesting the NEET exam paper leak and called for the resignation of Union education minister Dharmendra Pradhan. The rally was held in front of the chief minister’s residence, where the activists were peacefully raising slogans.However, the state police used water cannons and resorted to lathi-charge to disperse the rally, despite no provocation. Saha expressed dismay over CRPF jawans, led by assistant commandant Ram Kumar, who allegedly lathi-charged the peaceful rallyists and verbally abused women present at the spot.In response to the CRPF’s actions, Tripura Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) president Asish Kumar Saha, and sitting MLA as well as CWC member Sudip Roybarman, met with the CRPF inspector general to condemn the unprovoked assault and and the abusive language used against the peaceful TYC and NSUI activists.
