Tripura CM assures assembly of impartial probe into DGP’s death

Agartala: Tripura CM Dr. Manik Saha on Thursday assured the assembly that a thorough and impartial probe was underway into the death of state DGP Anurag Dhankar.Dhankar was found hanging in the washroom of his chamber at police headquarters on July 20.Saha said the DGP had instructed that he not be disturbed until 11am the following day. When he did not respond, senior officials intervened and found him in the washroom. He was taken to hospital, where doctors declared him dead at 12.48pm. An unnatural death case was subsequently registered at West Agartala police station.Saha said the investigation was being supervised by the crime branch and West Agartala police, with the IGP, law and order, overseeing the probe.The state forensic science laboratory has submitted its report, while evidence and other materials have been seized for examination. Although the post-mortem indicated a suicidal cause of death, the chief minister said all evidence and reports—including forensic findings, electronic evidence, bank transactions and documentary records—would be examined comprehensively.He added that some evidence had been sent outside the state for further examination and assured the House that all necessary legal measures will be taken to uncover the truth. Saha also expressed condolences over the DGP’s death.
