Bathinda: The organising committee of the Punjab chapter of Sanyukt Kisan Morcha (SKM) said the Chandigarh and Mohali administrations had allotted a site along Airport Road on the Chandigarh-Mohali border. The administrations also assured arrangements for drinking water, cleanliness, portable toilets and traffic management for the morcha from Sept 1 to 7.They said the preparations are in full swing and hundreds of tractor- trailers are expected to reach Chandigarh either on the night of Aug 31 or on Sept 1.Earlier, a meeting of the organising committee was held with Ropar DIG Nanak Singh, Chandigarh SSP Kanwardeep Kaur and SSP Mohali Harmandeep Hans to finalise the site for the morcha.The farmers’ demands include rollback of the proposed India-US free trade agreement; resolution of the longstanding river-water dispute based on the riparian principle and the Constitution; scrapping of Sections 78, 79 and 80 of the Reorganisation Act, 1966; provision of a complete debt waiver for farmers and agricultural workers; MSP for all crops based on C2+50% of the cost of production; scrapping of the Dam Safety Act, Electricity Amendment Act and Seed Bill; and provision of a monthly social security payment of Rs 10,000 to farmers and workers.
