Trader returning from temple dies after Chinese manjha cuts throat

Varanasi: A 55-year-old sari trader died after a Chinese kite string slit his throat while he was riding a bike on Kajjakpura flyover in Jaitpura police station area on Sunday morning.Jaitpura police station in-charge Upendra Pratap Singh said the victim, Sunil Kumar, was returning after offering prayers at Gopal Temple in Chowkhamba when the sharp string suddenly wrapped around his neck.Passers-by and eyewitnesses informed police that around 9 am, they were crossing the flyover when the string caught Sunil’s neck as he rode past. Before he could react, the string cut deep into his throat. Bleeding heavily, he fell on the road and struggled for help. Passers-by rushed him to the divisional hospital, where doctors declared him dead.Another commuter on Manduadih-Mahmoorganj rail overbridge also suffered severe injuries from a Chinese manjha.On Saturday, a 35-year-old man died after his neck was slit by a Chinese manjha while he was on his way to work on his two-wheeler under Tiwaripur police station limits in Gorakhpur.Despite officials ensuring the registration of murder cases in past incidents involving deaths caused by Chinese manjha, the menace continues unabated. Movement on flyovers, ROBs and bridges in densely populated areas, including Kajjakpura, Saraiya, Jalalipura, Purana Pul, Manduadih, Chowkaghat and Pandeypur, has become particularly risky due to Chinese manjha.
