TOI reporters win green journalist awards for highlighting conservation

Panaji: The Goa State Biodiversity Board (GSBB) awards for 2025 were announced on Tuesday, recognising exemplary contribution in the field of conservation of biodiversity and environment.TOI reporter Gauree Malkarnekar was named winner of the Green Journalist award of the Goa State Biodiversity Board (GSBB) for “playing a vital role in highlighting Goa’s environmental concerns and conservation efforts through impactful and balanced reporting.”“From protection of nesting turtles and biodiversity conservation to reporting on forest fires, waste management, and the Mhadei water diversion issue, her work has significantly contributed to environmental awareness in Goa,” GSBB said in an official statement.Another TOI reporter, Nida Sayed, won the Green Journalist appreciation award, along with Prasad Ravindra Sawant and Gurpreet Singh.The award presentation will take place on International Day for Biological Diversity 2026, on May 22 at Lok Bhavan, Dona Paula, under the theme ‘Acting Locally for Global Impact’.
