TN govt signs MoU with Vikram Solar for Rs 15,037crore BESS plant in Tirunelveli district
Govt said the MoU signed in the presence of chief minister C Joseph Vijay was for an investment of Rs 15,037 crore which is expected to generate 2,670 jobs.

CHENNAI: The Tamil Nadu govt on Thursday signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Vikram Solar Ltd to set up a Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) manufacturing plant at the SIPCOT Industrial Park in Gangaikondan in Tirunelveli district.Govt said the MoU signed in the presence of chief minister C Joseph Vijay was for an investment of Rs 15,037 crore which is expected to generate 2,670 jobs.The proposed facility will manufacture battery energy storage systems (BESS), a key technology for renewable energy storage and grid stability. Vikram Solar has already set up an integrated solar photovoltaic cell and module manufacturing facility at Gangaikondan. Vikram Solar operates solar photovoltaic (PV) module manufacturing units at Oragadam and Vallam in the state. The proposed BESS plant will further strengthen the company’s manufacturing presence in Tamil Nadu. Industries minister S Keerthana, chief secretary M Saikumar and Vikram Solar chairman and managing director Gyanesh Chaudhary were present during the event.Later in the day, Vijay chaired a review meeting with industries department ministers and officials at the Secretariat to assess ongoing projects and initiatives. He also reviewed proposals and new announcements being considered for inclusion in the state budget.
