Varanasi: The University Employee Health Complex of BHU organised an HPV vaccination camp on Wednesday to promote awareness about cervical cancer prevention and the importance of timely vaccination.Health experts at the awareness and vaccination camp highlighted the need for public participation and proactive engagement in preventing cervical cancer. They said HPV vaccination is an important preventive measure against cervical cancer and several other cancers. Timely vaccination of children and adolescents in the recommended age group can play a crucial role in reducing the risk of HPV-related cancers, they added.Dr Niti Singh said HPV infection is a major cause of cervical cancer and can also lead to other types of cancer. She emphasised that timely vaccination is vital in preventing HPV infection.She said HPV vaccination can begin at the age of 9, with the 9–14 age group considered especially important for immunisation. Children aged 9–14 are generally advised to receive two doses, while those aged 15 and above may require three doses as per medical advice.
