Nishad Party protests over remarks against Sanjay Nishad

Gorakhpur: A political row over remarks linked to Nishad Party national president and Uttar Pradesh minister Sanjay Nishad intensified on Thursday, with party workers staging a protest outside the DM office in Gorakhpur and demanding withdrawal of alleged objectionable comments made against him.The demonstration was led by Amit Nishad, national executive president of the Nishad Party and son of Sanjay Nishad. Many party workers and office-bearers participated in the protest and later submitted a memorandum to the administration seeking action in the matter.Addressing the gathering, Amit said Sanjay Nishad’s recent statement in Sultanpur was being wrongly projected as being directed against a particular community. He maintained that the minister’s remarks were aimed at a person accused of atrocities against members of the fishing community and had no connection with any caste group.“Criminals do not have a caste. A person involved in crime can belong to any community,” Amit said, adding that linking the minister’s statement to a specific caste was inappropriate. He alleged that during a recent meeting of members of the Kshatriya community, objectionable language was used against Sanjay Nishad while referring to his Sultanpur statement. The protest, he said, was organised in response to those remarks.
