Ghaziabad: Three people, including a minor, headed to Haridwar on a bike for a kanwar pilgrimage, died after they crashed into a vehicle on Delhi-Meerut Expressway on Wednesday. Police said the riders were travelling at a high speed and lost balance and crashed into a vehicle moving ahead.This is the fourth death of a kanwar pilgrim in Ghaziabad this yatra season. On Tuesday, a truck ran over a kanwar pilgrim after he fell on the road allegedly after a roadways bus brushed against his bike. His friend, riding pillion, suffered minor injuries in the accident.On Wednesday, cops said they were alerted by passersby about three injured persons lying on DME around 4.30 am. A team from Bhojpur police station took the injured to hospital, but were declared dead on arrival.According to police, the victims — Gyan Prakash (29), Rajkumar (25) and Pradeep Singh (17) — had started for Haridwar from Haryana on Tuesday night. Prakash, who worked at a shoe manufacturing unit, was riding the bike. “He had reached the Kalchhina area of DME when the bike crashed with an unidentified vehicle,” he said.Modinagar ACP Bhaskar Verma said the bike’s front portion was mangled due to the intensity of the crash. “An FIR has been registered against an unknown driver under BNS sections 281 (rash driving) and 106 (1) (death due to negligence),” he said.
