Hyderabad: Telangana high court on Tuesday directed the Telangana State Level Police Recruitment Board to file an affidavit in four weeks explaining the schedule for the recruitment process of around 7,400 posts in the police department, which were recently approved by the state govt.A division bench, comprising Chief Justice Aparesh Kumar Singh and Justice GM Mohiuddin, passed the directions while hearing a PIL seeking the immediate filling of vacant posts in the department. The petition was filed by Keethineedi Akhil Sri Guru Teja, chairman of Help The People Charitable Trust, a city-based NGO. During the hearing, govt counsel informed the bench that the process for recruiting 5,000 posts in the department has begun, and the board also issued a press release to this effect.Opposing the contention, petitioner’s counsel argued that the board is misleading the court as they committed during the previous hearing for over 7,000 posts and have now issued a notification for only 5,000 posts. “Last recruitment was held in 2022, and now after four years also they have notified only 5,000 posts,” the counsel argued. In response, govt counsel informed the bench that the 5,000 posts include various cadres in the department, while around 2,400 posts are in the process for recruitment to civil defence wings like Fire and Disaster Response Force, prisons department and Special Protection Force.Meanwhile, the petitioner counsel argued that the court in the past directed authorities to complete the plan of action, but that did not happen. “For this recruitment process to complete, it would take around two years, and by then more posts would fall vacant, increasing the vacancies in the department. Unless the process is done in a time-bound manner, things would remain the same,” added the counsel. Recording the submissions, the bench passed the direction and adjourned the PIL for further hearing.
