Shimla: Chief minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu on Saturday distributed Rs 5.7 crore in financial aid to 1,471 registered construction workers and their dependants under various welfare schemes of the Himachal Pradesh Building and Other Construction Workers Welfare Board at Nogli, Rampur.The assistance was provided for housing, education, marriage, maternity and paternity benefits, accidental death and funeral expenses, disability support, and girl-child welfare.Under the Mukhya Mantri Aawas Yojana, Rs 45.9 lakh was provided to widows, single, destitute and Divyang women for house construction.Another Rs 2.7 crore was distributed among 968 beneficiaries for higher and technical education of workers’ children, while Rs 1.8 crore was given to 359 beneficiaries under the marriage assistance scheme.Besides, Rs 54.2 lakh was released in 21 accidental death and funeral assistance cases and Rs 7.1 lakh to 30 beneficiaries under the maternity and paternity scheme, while Rs 7.6 lakh was provided under the girl-childbirth gift scheme.Sukhu reiterated that the govt was committed to ensuring transparent and hassle-free delivery of welfare benefits, with assistance being transferred directly into beneficiaries’ bank accounts.
