Swiggy Instamart pilots LPG cylinder delivery in Bengaluru

Bengaluru: Bengaluru residents can now order small LPG cylinders on Swiggy Instamart without a regular domestic LPG connection, as the quick-commerce platform expands into a tightly regulated household category. Instamart, in partnership with state-run Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Ltd (HPCL), has begun a pilot in parts of Uttarahalli and Subramanyapura, a company spokesperson told TOI. The service will be expanded across Bengaluru over the next month.Customers can order HPCL’s 10-kg HP Navya composite cylinder and the 5-kg Appu metal cylinder. The 10-kg cylinder is lighter than a conventional metal cylinder and features a translucent body that allows users to check the remaining gas level.“Instamart has expanded its use cases well beyond groceries to become part of everyday life. With HPCL, we’re extending that convenience to an essential household service, bringing LPG onto Instamart while maintaining the safety and reliability standards consumers expect,” Instamart CEO Amitesh Jha said in a statement. The offering is targeted at students, working professionals, small families and households looking for a backup cylinder. It also marks quick commerce’s entry into a category where regulatory compliance and safe handling are as critical as convenience. As of Wednesday afternoon, the app listed the first purchase of the 5-kg cylinder at Rs 1,713, with refills priced at Rs 839. The 10-kg cylinder was priced at Rs 4,958 for the first purchase and Rs 1,772 for a refill. A compatible cylinder safety regulator was sold separately for Rs 299.There is no security deposit or additional delivery charge, the spokesperson said. The cylinders are sold at government-regulated retail prices, with the higher upfront payment covering the cost of purchasing the cylinder. For subsequent refills, customers must return an empty HPCL cylinder at the time of delivery. Both refill options were listed as sold out when TOI checked the app shortly after the service went live.First-time buyers must present valid identification at the time of delivery, and delivery personnel will retain a copy of the document. Accepted IDs include a voter ID, driving licence, PAN card, passport, employee ID and student ID.
