Kolkata: Stressing on the need for a politically neutral administration, CM Suvendu Adhikari assured West Bengal Civil Service officers that his govt would not use the bureaucracy for political purposes.He was speaking at a meeting at Dhana Dhanya auditorium on Wednesday. This was his first address to WBCS officers since he assumed office.“You will not be used. I won’t turn you into political workers,” said Adhikari, adding that his govt was committed to restoring professionalism and integrity in the administrative machinery.The CM said administrative discipline had collapsed when Trinamool was in office and many officers were compelled to function in a politically driven system.He alleged that IAS and IPS officers were made to be present at political platforms where the PM and the Union home minister were criticised.He said some officers had become entangled in corruption due to fear or pressure adding that his administration was determined to change the culture.Rebuilding the state’s administrative structure is among key priorities of his govt, said Adhikari.The CM called on officers to focus on public welfare and said governance should be driven by public trust and not fear. He directed officers to ensure govt services are delivered without political bias.Adhikari acknowledged that it was impossible to implement govt policy without the cooperation of administrative officers and said that he wanted officers to share ground realities with him.
