Ludhiana: Under the ‘Mission Clean Punjab’ initiative, municipal commissioner Neeru Katyal Gupta conducted a series of morning surprise inspections across Ludhiana on Monday. The hour-long drive, which began at 7 am, was monitored at the ground level by local bodies minister Harjot Singh Bains via video conferencing. To streamline sweeping operations, Gupta announced that the city has been divided into distinct 10-km stretches, with each stretch assigned to a specific official responsible for its maintenance. To ensure maximum efficiency, all civic departments—including the health branch, buildings and roads Branch, operation and maintenance (O&M) cell, and the tehbazaari wing—have been ordered to work in close coordination. The field inspections spanned several key commercial and transit hubs, including areas near a private mall, the books market, the civic body’s Zone A office, the scooter market near Model Town, Cheema Chowk, Division No, 3 Chowk, Partap Chowk, and other arterial locations. Simultaneously, joint commissioners Vineet Kumar and Amanpreet Singh, along with zonal commissioners Neeraj Jain, Gurpal Singh, and Jasdev Singh Sekhon, led parallel inspections within their respective jurisdictions.Following the field visits, the civic body chief convened a review meeting with the joint commissioners, zonal commissioners, chief sanitary inspectors, and the health officer. Gupta issued warnings to the staff, stating that immediate disciplinary action will be taken against any official if cleanliness anomalies are detected on the ground.Civic officials said these surprise checks will continue over the coming days. Additionally, Gupta urged residents to support the civic body’s efforts by refraining from dumping waste and garbage at open sites or vacant plots.
