Lucknow: A sub-inspector posted at Naka police station has been removed from field duty and attached to the police lines after a video surfaced showing him allegedly assaulting a man and damaging his car while purportedly under the influence of alcohol.The incident reportedly took place on Sunday. The officer, identified as Gopesh Sharma, allegedly got into an altercation with a man, abused him and damaged the windshield of his car. The incident was recorded on video by the man, and the footage later went viral on social media.According to the complainant, Rahul Geetam, a resident of Barawan Kala in Dubagga who runs a tiffin service, he had known Sharma for some time. Rahul said the sub-inspector came to his house on Sunday morning and asked him to accompany him.After Rahul got into the car, the officer allegedly began assaulting him and using abusive language.CAR WINDSCREEN DAMAGEDRahul alleged that while they were travelling, he got out of the vehicle to relieve himself. At that point, Sharma allegedly picked up a brick and smashed the car’s windshield.Rahul also alleged that the officer took Rs 15,000 from him. He subsequently took the sub-inspector to Dubagga police station and lodged a complaint.A video purportedly showing the incident shows the officer arguing with Rahul and allegedly slapping him.Dubagga Inspector Shrikant Rai said the two sides had initially reached a compromise. However, after the video surfaced and attracted the attention of senior police officials, the matter was taken seriously.OFFICER ATTACHED TO POLICE LINESWestern DCP Kamlesh Dixit said the police had taken cognisance of the viral video.He said sub-inspector Gopesh Sharma had been attached to the police lines (line hazir) and an inquiry had been handed over to ACP Chowk.The DCP said further action would be taken on the basis of the inquiry report.The allegations against the police officer, including assault, abusive behaviour, damage to property and the alleged taking of cash, are being examined as part of the departmental investigation.
