Jaisalmer: The city witnessed long queues at collectorate circle Monday, which was also the last day to file nominations for upcoming Jaisalmer Municipal Council elections. Long queues were witnessed at the collectorate office premises as candidates and supporters gathered to file nomination.The unprecedented rush seemed to have created a challenging situation for Congress and BJP. Women candidates from both the parties also seemed enthusiastic. Congress released list of candidates for all 45 wards shortly before the nomination deadline. The party has fielded several prominent names like former chairperson Ashok Singh Tanwar, former councillors Nirmal Raiyani, Praveen Pawan Suda and Meghraj Singh Baroo. The party has also given tickets to Tanwar’s daughter, sister and niece.Similarly, within minutes of completion of the nomination process, BJP also released its candidates’ list with some important names like party city president Arun Purohit, BJP leader Ajay Singh Rahad, Narendra Vyas, Nar Singh Od and Maga Ram Sen. Former deputy chairperson Khinv Singh, was denied a ticket, after which he decided to contest as an independent from Ward No. 1.Both the parties have given considerable preference to young candidates while finalising their nominees for the civic polls.
