SP MP targets govt over Ram Remple donation row

Gorakhpur: Ballia MP Sanatan Pandey on Monday visited Gorakhpur and reviewed preparations with Samajwadi Party for the birth anniversary programme of late socialist leader Janeshwar Mishra, scheduled to be held in Lucknow on August 5.During the review meeting, Pandey discussed organisational preparations for the state-level event and urged party workers to ensure maximum participation in the programme. Later, the MP visited the district jail along with party leaders and met SP member Arvind Shukla, painter Ramchandra Maurya and labourer Bharat Kumar Nishad, who were arrested after allegedly displaying hoardings and banners protesting the alleged irregularities in the collection of Ram Temple donations and offerings.Speaking to reporters, Pandey alleged that the ongoing action in the Ram Temple donation controversy appeared to be a ‘cover-up’ rather than a serious investigation. He questioned why central and state agencies had failed to detect the alleged irregularities earlier despite their presence. The MP claimed that action began only after SP president Akhilesh Yadav raised the issue publicly. Referring to the ongoing SIT probe, he alleged that the investigation had been confined to lower-level employees while those responsible for taking key decisions had escaped scrutiny.Pandey also accused the BJP govt of targeting its political opponents and alleged that members of the Brahmin community had not received justice or adequate representation during the party’s tenure in UP. Party district president Brijesh Kumar Gautam also spoke.
