Bengaluru: A superintendent attached to the slum board and development department was assaulted while supervising the special intensive revision (SIR) of electoral rolls in Devara Jeevanahalli, north Bengaluru, after questioning a group of youths who were arguing with booth level officers (BLOs).The complaint was filed by Pakeerappa, 37, who had been appointed as supervising officer for 11 BLOs deployed in ward no. 47, under the Pulakeshinagar revenue officer to oversee the ongoing SIR process a month ago.On Wednesday, around 1.30pm, while inspecting the SIR exercise near Kausar Masjid on 18th Cross in Roshan Nagar, two persons, identified as Yarab, 23, and Dastagir, 27, approached a BLO asking for an SIR form. The BLO reportedly informed them that since the address mentioned was in Jayanagar, they should approach the authorities there. This led to an argument between the three. When the supervising officer intervened, Yarab shouted at him and punched him in the mouth, causing his lip to bleed. Dastagir punched Pakeerappa in the eye and hit him on the back. A few others, including Iqbal, joined the duo in the assault.Passers-by intervened and pacified the matter.Pakeerappa underwent treatment at Dr Ambedkar Hospital and subsequently, filed a complaint at DJ Halli police station against Yarab, Dastagir, Iqbal, and others.DCP (East) Vikram Amathe said, “Based on the complaint received and the primary investigation, two persons have been arrested. They do not have a criminal background. The role of the other suspects is being verified.”A senior officer said both Yarab and Dastagir work as delivery boys and are residents of DJ Halli but they currently stay in Jayanagar.
