GURGAON: A 52-year-old woman was arrested on Monday after a video allegedly showing her assaulting her domestic help inside a luxury apartment in Gurgaon went viral on social media, police said.She was later released on police bail after agreeing to join the investigation.The woman, a resident of DLF Camellias on Golf Course Road in Sector 42, has been booked under Section 115 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) for voluntarily causing hurt.The nearly 90-second video, recorded by a neighbour through a kitchen window, allegedly shows the woman repeatedly slapping the domestic help and pulling her hair inside the apartment’s kitchen.According to Gurugram Police, personnel from Sushant Lok police station took suo motu cognisance of the video after it was circulated on X and launched an inquiry. The investigation found that the incident took place on July 24 at The Camellias, following which an FIR was registered.Police said the domestic help, a Nepalese national, had been working at the woman’s residence for around two years. She left the job on July 27 after an argument with the woman over work, officials said.“During the preliminary investigation, it was revealed that the woman whom the accused had assaulted was her domestic help, who had left the job on July 27. The accused woman had assaulted the domestic help following an argument regarding work. Further action in the case will be taken as per rules. The case is under investigation,” a Gurugram Police spokesperson said.Police sources said the domestic help has since returned to her hometown in Nepal. A relative had earlier told police that she had not filed a complaint and had no grievance against her employer.The domestic help has also reportedly submitted a written statement requesting that the video be removed from social media platforms. Police, however, said they proceeded with the case after taking suo motu cognisance of the viral footage.The circumstances surrounding the incident and the authenticity and context of the video are being investigated, police said.(With PTI inputs)
