Pune: Harshwardhan Sapkal, state unit chief of Congress party, on Sunday said Modi govt and state govt have been indulging in corruption. Their promises that were made to the public, women, and young people have been proven to be futile. He was speaking at a meeting with party worker in Kothrud to review the party’s event ‘Chhatron Ki Goonj’ in Pune on Aug 22. The event will be led by Rahul Gandhi, Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha.“Aimed at raising the voices of youngsters and women, the Congress party will organise the event in Pune. It will expose the wrongdoings of both these govts and their leaders,” Sapkal said.He added that the primary intent is to unite female students and to address pressing systemic concerns, including quality education, employment opportunities for women, personal safety, gender equality, and freedom of expression.Promises regarding Ladki Bahin, he stated, have not been kept, and ministers were serving their vested interests by introducing ethanol blends in fuel.Earlier in the day, a bike rally was organised from the Bhide Wada by the Pune City Mahila Congress to mobilise public support and set the stage for the event. Congress leaders highlighted the growing angst among youth caused by career uncertainty, paper leaks, and a lack of opportunities. The movement seeks to provide an organised, democratic outlet for students to demand accountability.“By launching an awareness drive from Bhide Wada – the site where Savitribai Phule established India’s first school for girls – the Congress leadership strategically anchors the movement in the legacy of women’s education and social reform,” said Sapkal.Launched in Kota in June 2026, the Congress outreach initiative expanded to Dehradun and Prayagraj as well.
