Pune: The rough draft of “Pune Growth Hub” blueprint is expected to be finalised by the end of June, with a preliminary draft ready by late May, divisional commissioner Chandrakant Pulkundwar said on Friday.The announcement followed a high-level executive committee review meeting chaired by Nitin Kareer, the chief of the state finance commission.“Two agencies appointed by the Pune International Centre —ISEG and McKinsey — are currently consulting with all relevant departments to prepare the draft,” Pulkundwar told TOI. “We have directed them to submit a rough draft by the end of May, followed by a final version in June, which will then be presented to the state govt.”During Thursday’s review meeting, Kareer said that the blueprint will serve as a comprehensive framework for the district’s long-term sustainable and dynamic development. The initiative aims to create a unified roadmap, ensuring structured planning for the Pune Metropolitan Region. Once the blueprint is finalised, funds will be allocated to priority projects.The review covered sectors such as infrastructure, industry, transport, tourism, agriculture and urban development, with focus on economic growth, quality of life and sustainability in the Pune region. Officials discussed short and long-term development plans, investment proposals and key requirements, stressing the need for an integrated development plan through inter-departmental coordination. Officials said the appointed agencies were expected to finalise the report over the next few months.Key connectivity projects discussed included the Samruddhi Mahamarg link, Pune–Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar highway, Kalyan–Bhima corridor and Pune–Bengaluru highway to improve mobility. Officials also deliberated on solutions to major urban challenges such as traffic congestion, water supply and waste management. Based on inputs from departments, the agencies will prepare a detailed and integrated development plan.Proposed as a “global growth hub” based on NITI Aayog recommendations, the plan envisages Pune as a major economic driver. The project is expected to attract investments exceeding Rs40,000 crore and generate between 15 and 18 lakh jobs.The meeting served as a critical coordination exercise between various agencies to ensure an integrated development plan. Officials stressed that inter-departmental synergy is essential for addressing the region’s short-term requirements and long-term goals.The review saw participation from a wide array of top officials, including district collector Jitendra Dudi, MahaMetro managing director Shravan Hardikar, and representatives from the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC), Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC), Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority (PMRDA), National Highways Authority of India (NHAI), Public Works Department (PWD), and the irrigation department.
