Bengaluru: A 12-year-old boy was hospitalised after a neighbour’s pet Rottweiler allegedly broke loose and mauled him in Maheshwarinagar, Mahadevapura, on June 13.The attack took place around 2.30 pm. The situation escalated after the dog’s owners allegedly abused and threatened the victim’s family in an attempt to prevent them from approaching police. The Mahadevapura police have registered a case against the dog’s owner, Shyam, and his wife, Vijayalakshmi.According to the complaint filed by the boy’s father, who is an ex-serviceman, the minor was cycling on the residential street outside his house. Suddenly, a black Rottweiler bolted out of a neighbouring house through an unsecured gate. The aggressive canine lunged at the boy, biting him deeply on his right hip and buttock. It immediately ran back to the house. The panicked boy lost control of his bicycle and crashed on the road. He sustained multiple cuts and bruises. Hearing the boy’s screams, residents rushed to the spot. He was rushed to a hospital.he situation escalated when the victim’s parents confronted Shyam and Vijayalakshmi over the attack. They questioned why the Rottweiler had been left unrestrained, citing govt guidelines that require large, potentially dangerous breeds to be securely confined and, where necessary, muzzled. However, instead of expressing remorse, the couple allegedly reacted angrily. They reportedly shouted at the victim’s parents, claimed the child had provoked the dog, and warned them of “dire consequences” if they proceeded with a police complaint.“We have issued a notice to Shyam and Vijayalakshmi, directing them to appear before us. Also, we have written to GBA, seeking its report on the guidelines issued to Rottweiler owners,” a police officer said.
