Recent rain breaks humid spell in city, more coming

Ludhiana: Residents of Ludhiana got some relief from the hot and humid conditions on Thursday as temperatures remained close to normal levels following recent rainfall.The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast rain and thundershowers over the next few days, raising hopes of continued respite from the prolonged humid spell.The sky remained cloudy since the morning, pushing maximum temperature to 33.4 degrees Celsius, which is considered normal for this time of the year. However, it was one degree higher than the previous day’s maximum temperature.The minimum temperature settled at 27 degrees Celsius, which was 0.9 degree above normal and 0.4 degree higher than the reading recorded a day earlier.Humidity levels also remained relatively comfortable compared to previous days. At 8:30am, humidity was recorded at 81%, which was 4% below normal levels. By 5.30pm, humidity stood at 70%, remaining within the usual range for the season.According to the meteorological department, weather conditions are likely to remain favourable over the next three days. The forecast predicts a partly cloudy sky accompanied by one or two spells of rain or thundershowers. While the daytime temperature is expected to rise marginally, night temperatures may witness a slight decline during this period.Many residents noted a visible improvement in weather conditions and said outdoor activities became easier compared to the past few days.Rajesh Kumar, a city resident, said the weather was considerably more pleasant than earlier in the week. “The humidity was lower and the temperature was bearable, making it easier to step out for work and complete outdoor chores. We hope such conditions continue in the coming days,” he said.College student Gurleen Kaur also welcomed the change in weather. She said the cooler conditions made it easier to attend classes and spend time outdoors.“It was a pleasant change after several days of hot and humid weather. I could go to college and move around without feeling exhausted. The weather felt much more comfortable and I hope the temperatures remain pleasant over the next few days,” she said.With the monsoon remaining active across the region, residents can expect intermittent rainfall and cloudy conditions in the city over the coming days.
