Pune: Rainfall activity eased considerably across Pune city on Saturday, with most areas recording only very light to light showers throughout the day. The ghat sections, however, continued to receive intense rainfall over the previous 24 hours, with several locations registering triple-digit rainfall totals until 8.30am on Saturday.Among the highest rainfall totals recorded in the ghats were Tamhini (280mm), Dawdi (249mm), Shirgaon (240mm), Bhira (223mm), Koyna (Navja) (174mm), Ambone (163mm), Dungerwadi (162mm), Lonavla (Off) (149mm), Koyna (Pophali) (136mm), Khand (133mm), Walvan (118mm) and Lonavla (Tata) (116mm).Within Pune district, rainfall between 8.30am and 5.30pm on Saturday remained light to moderate. Girivan recorded the highest rainfall at 27mm, followed by Kurvande (26mm), Talegaon (10mm), Malin (9.5mm), Bhor (7mm) and Nimgiri (4.5mm). Urban areas received negligible rainfall, with Chinchwad recording 2.5mm, Pashan 1.5mm and Shirur 1mm, while Shivajinagar, Hadapsar, Haveli, Dapodi and Dudulgaon recorded just 0.5mm each.The India Meteorological Department (IMD) said Pune city and its surrounding areas are likely to witness a partly cloudy sky, becoming generally cloudy by the afternoon or evening, with very light to light rain expected on Sunday. Heavy rainfall is likely only at isolated places in the district’s ghat areas.The forecast also indicates a gradual reduction in rainfall over the coming week. Maximum temperatures in Pune city are expected to rise from around 29°C on Sunday to about 31°C by Aug 6 and 7, while minimum temperatures are likely to remain between 23°C and 25°C. Although cloudy conditions are expected to persist, rainfall over the city is likely to remain negligible or very light.
