Promise to marry leaves woman with debts to repay

Surat: A married man has been booked by Dindoli police after a 26-year-old tuition teacher alleged that he developed a physical relationship with her on the assurance of marriage and later left her with liabilities of Rs 8.93 lakh through credit card spending, loans and cash transactions.According to the FIR, Yogesh Prajapati befriended the woman on Instagram in 2020 after sending her a friend request. Their online interactions gradually developed into a relationship and they began meeting in person a few months later.The complainant alleged that Prajapati promised to marry her and established a physical relationship with her at her residence when family members were absent and at other locations.According to the complaint, Prajapati frequently took money from her and took possession of six of her credit cards for his own use. The woman alleged that he made many transactions on the cards and later persuaded her to arrange additional funds when repayment obligations increased.She said that, at his insistence, she took a loan. Despite this, Prajapati kept using the credit cards, increasing her financial burden.The woman told police that she repeatedly asked him to formalise the marriage. According to the FIR, Prajapati kept postponing the matter, stating that he would first get a divorce from his wife.Suspecting that the promise of marriage was being used to mislead her, she demanded the return of her credit cards and repayment of the money, the complaint states.The FIR further alleges that Prajapati threatened to kill her when she pressed him on the issue.Dindoli police registered a case against Prajapati for intercourse by deceitful means, criminal breach of trust and criminal intimidation.
