Raj puts Ebola watch on flyers from high-risk nations

Jaipur: The health department Tuesday ordered a 21-day surveillance protocol for international travellers arriving from Ebola-affected countries, directing officials to strengthen screening, monitoring and isolation arrangements in the state. The advisory follows concern over the spread of Bundibugyo virus disease, an Ebola virus disease outbreak, in the Democratic Republic of the Congo and parts of the African region. Officials said passengers arriving from the DR Congo, Uganda, Nigeria and Kenya will be screened at Jaipur airport or traced if they enter Rajasthan through airports in other Indian cities.A health official said the 21-day monitoring period matches the maximum incubation window for Ebola. Suspected cases will be isolated in designated facilities, with quarantine arrangements being developed in Jaipur and other cities to ensure timely response.Health teams have also been instructed to verify the recent travel history of passengers arriving from abroad. The department said the measures are aimed at early detection, rapid reporting and safe isolation of suspected infections. Authorities are focusing on travellers with symptoms or exposure history linked to affected countries, while ensuring coordination with airport, immigration and district health teams.Officials said sustained transmission and a high death rate in affected countries have prompted Rajasthan to heighten preparedness. The state participated in a video conference with the ministry of health and family welfare Tuesday to review Ebola surveillance and response protocols. No Ebola case has been reported in Rajasthan, officials said, adding that the steps are preventive and aligned with health guidance.
