Imphal: A 12-member team of the Poumai Naga Naotumai Me (PNNM) visited Makhan village in Kangpokpi district on Thursday to stand in solidarity with the families of six Naga civilians who were killed after being abducted on May 13, and with the internally displaced persons (IDPs) taking shelter in the village.The visit came ahead of chief minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh’s proposed trip to Makhan on Saturday. The working committee of the Joint Tribes Council Manipur (WC-JTCM) has opposed the CM’s visit, maintaining that justice for the six victims should take precedence.Interacting with the delegation, Makhan villagers highlighted the challenges of hosting around 200 IDPs. They said while several organisations and agencies have supplied relief materials, the aid was insufficient to sustain the displaced population over an extended period. The villagers also said Makhan has not yet been officially recognised by the state govt as a relief camp, resulting in limited assistance.The families of the six victims reiterated their demand for justice, saying their appeal to the authorities has remained unchanged since the incident.Makhan village chairperson Siliangbou Malangmai said the village did not invite the CM. “We had not asked the CM to visit Makhan but his proposed visit is out of his own initiative and we have nothing to say. From the very beginning, our only demand has been justice for the six victims. Even after 85 days, justice has not been delivered,” he said.The chairperson said the village had no personal objection to the CM’s visit but would abide by the WC-JTCM decision.During the visit, the delegation provided financial assistance to the six bereaved families and the IDPs.
