Bengaluru: A road accident near Hebbal flyover allegedly took an unexpected turn when a 25-year-old mechanical engineer was forced to transfer Rs 6,000 after two men reportedly threatened and manhandled him while he was nursing a fractured arm.According to the complaint filed by Aswin M Puthumana, an employee at a private firm in Bhadrappa Layout, he was riding his Royal Enfield Guerrilla bike from BEL football ground towards his PG accommodation in Veeranapalya around 11 pm on Sept 29 when an electric scooter, bearing registration number KA-01-AS-1374, collided with his bike near Hebbal Circle junction.Speaking to TOI, he said, soon after he met with the accident, he fell unconscious for a few seconds and later, two men took him in an autorickshaw, bearing registration number KA-03-AF-9820, claiming they were taking him to a nearby Baptist hospital. The two claimed to be the brothers of the person who had caused the accident. They demanded money towards repairs to their brother’s damaged scooter. He told them he did not have any money and that his own motorcycle had also been damaged in the accident.According to Aswin, the duo stopped a little ahead of the hospital on a service road and began arguing that he had come on the wrong side of the road and was responsible for the accident. Aswin said, “I was on the correct side; the electric scooter rider was on the wrong side.”Aswin alleged the men then picked a quarrel with him, claiming their younger brother had suffered injuries and demanding for money. When he refused, one of them threatened to hit him. Aswin, who had fractured his left arm after falling from his bike, said one of them pressed hard on the injured arm, causing him severe pain.A delivery boy, who witnessed the accident, had followed the auto. He suggested Aswin pay the money to get out of the situation. The two men then showed him a QR code and demanded Rs 6,800. Aswin called one of his friends and borrowed money online. He transferred Rs 5,900 through digital payment applications in three transactions. The duo again allegedly pressed his fractured hand, demanded Rs 100 more, and Aswin transferred the same. They then fled the scene. Later, the delivery boy helped Aswin call his friends and get treated at a hospital. The next day, he lodged a complaint at Hebbal traffic police station. On Oct 1, he lodged another complaint at Amruthahalli police station about the extortion. A case has been registered under Section 308 (extortion), and efforts are on to nab the duo.
