Postgraduate admissions: Gujarat colleges get power to fill vacant seats
Out of approximately 1.5 lakh postgraduate seats available across the state, only around 57,000 have been filled so far

Ahmedabad: The admission process for postgraduate courses in govt universities, including Gujarat University, is currently underway through the Gujarat Common Admission Services (GCAS) portal. However, with a significant number of seats still vacant, authorities have decided to grant colleges the power to fill these seats directly.Out of approximately 1.5 lakh postgraduate seats available across the state, only around 57,000 have been filled so far. To expedite the admission process, more than 1 lakh vacant seats in courses such as MA, MCom, MSc, MEd, MPEd, LLM, BEd, BPEd, and LLB will now be filled by the respective colleges.Fresh registrations will reopen from July 30, allowing students to apply again and select colleges of their choice. Based on these applications, colleges will offer admissions between July 30 and Aug 14. Students will be able to view these offers on their login dashboards and confirm admission by visiting the respective college.Similar to undergraduate admissions, students will need to confirm their seats through an OTP-based system. Notably, GCAS will not display cut-off marks during this round. Instead, the responsibility of maintaining merit standards will rest with individual universities and colleges.
