Panaji: Chief minister Pramod Sawant on Saturday said Goa police would conduct a thorough inquiry into the role of the superintendent of police (SP) seen with alleged job scam accused Ajit Shankhwalkar, a Taleigao resident.Sawant said Shankhwalkar would be arrested and his properties seized. “We will conduct an inquiry into the SP who was seen with the accused,” he said. “If he was with any SP, then his inquiry would be conducted in the case.”Sawant also urged people to be cautious about job scams, saying that even educated people, including graduates, postgraduates and children of former govt employees, fell prey to such frauds. He said it was unfortunate that people were being duped by such promises.Panaji police registered an FIR against Shankhwalkar for cheating and forgery after a job scam surfaced at the excise department on Thursday. Manoj Talekar walked into the Panaji excise office claiming he had been appointed additional excise commissioner. He carried an appointment letter allegedly issued by Shankhwalkar. Excise staff soon realised that Talekar was not the new appointee, and an initial police inquiry confirmed that the letter was forged.Sanket Sakhardande, assistant commissioner of excise, filed a complaint alleging that Shankhwalkar forged documents and issued them in the name of Ashvin Chandru A, commissioner of excise. Talekar’s father, Govind, also lodged a complaint alleging that Shankhwalkar promised govt jobs to Manoj and Manisha, took Rs 27 lakh and Rs 25 lakh, respectively, and gave them forged appointment letters, including one for the post of deputy director of accounts.
